Matthew is a Senior Research Fellow in Writing and Cultural Studies in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry at Curtin University. He serves as the program leader: Posthumanities, Animalities, Environments in the Centre for Culture and Technology, and is the series editor of Animalities published by Edinburgh University Press.

His research interests include: Animal Studies; Continental Philosophy; Michel Foucault; History and Philosophy of Animal Science; Philosophical Ethology; Field Philosophy; Philosophy of Religion; Biblical Studies; Creative Writing; Experimental Fiction; Speculative Fiction; Cultural Theory; Ecocriticism; Environmental Humanities; Extinction Studies.
