I am a certified professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA) with the CCPDT and a certified dog behaviour consultant (CDBC) with the IAABC. My interests lie in advocacy for humane training. My current research is on social constructs of “the dog” and how this shapes and influences training methods and the implications for autonomy, consent, and ultimately, a dog’s emotional well being. I am using a mixed methodology to untangle the complexity of the dog-human dyad. By bridging cognitive behavioural research with social science, I feel we can create a more encompassing picture of how these relationships and interactions affect our companion dogs.
