Thom is an Associate Professor of Environmental Humanities and an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow (2017-2021) at the University of New South Wales. He is also co-editor of the international, open-access journal Environmental Humanities (Duke University Press).  His research is situated in the broad interdisciplinary field of the environmental humanities, exploring the role of an interdisciplinary humanities approach to understanding and addressing environmental change.
